10-APRIL
2012 - Changes to City & Guilds
Courses, IET GN3 & Apprenticeships
The new C&G 2394
Initial verification and 2395 Periodic
inspection and testing are now in place and
available at centres.
The last examination
for the 2391-10 is in December 2012.
City and Guilds are
due to introduce a new qualification, the
2397 this autumn which is intended for
future Qualifying Supervisors of
organisations involved with installations in
dwellings.
Basically
this will require a greater amount of study
and workplace evidence in order to fulfil
compliance with Part ‘P’ which in itself
will probably be retained but with some
proposed changes relating to, for example,
third party certification.
The public
consultation on Part ‘P’ is due to end on 27th
April and any changes that are deregulatory
will come into force in April 2012 and any
amendments that are regulatory, in October
2013.
A new edition of the
IET Guidance Note 3 is due to be released in
April. It is supposed to be related more
closely to the needs of those studying for
Inspection and Testing qualifications.
We are, in response
to several enquiries, considering offering
Apprenticeship training and have been
mailing current customers with the following
details and a questionnaire:
ELECTRICAL
INSTALLATION APPRENTICESHIPS
Brian Scaddan
Associates has been approached by several
customers asking us to deliver Electrical
Installation & Maintenance Apprenticeship
training in the
Portsmouth
area, and if there is sufficient interest
from our established customer base, we plan
to offer this training from September 2012.
To this end we are
carrying out some market research to see if
the demand would warrant further investment
in this growing sector of our business.
Apprentices are good
for your business, they can be trained and
moulded to meet the needs of your business
now and in the future!
The Government fully funds the
training for a 16 to 18 year old Apprentice,
with 50% funding available for 19 to 24 year
old learners plus the Government have just
announced an apprentice employer incentive
for first time apprentice recruiters of up
to £1500 (conditions apply).
An apprentice typically earns £2.60
per hour (£78 for a 30 hour week), so to
find out more, or to register your interest,
please complete the following
questionnaire.

Keep watching this space for further
developments
21-JUL-2011
There
is much change afoot in the world of
electrical contracting/training. The
Electrotechnical Assessment
Specification (EAS) has issued the
requirements for Qualifying Supervisor
status with Approval bodies (NICEIC, NAPIT
etc) to be implemented from 1st
January 2012, for new applicants.
Also,
there are developments in progress to change
City & Guilds qualifications, 2377, 2382,
2391-10 and 20 and 2392-10 in order to bring
them into line with the new Qualifications
and Credit Framework (QCF) , once again by
January 2012.
Don’t
get caught up in ‘Chinese whispers’ and
‘hearsay’ regarding these new developments,
we are actively involved in these changes,
mainly those relating to the C&G, and so
will be updating this page as things
progress and hence if you read it here it
will correct.
The
first meeting of the development team for
the C&G qualifications takes place on the 14th
July, so watch this space!!
